Did you know in California it is mandatory that the signer shows proof of identity AND must be present when signing documents.

In some circumstances when the signer cannot be present (which is rare) then you would need a Subscribing Witness to swear under penalty of perjury that they watched the signer sign and then the witness will also need to put their Identification information in the Notaries Journal.
